Zumaya coming to Lakeland

OK, so he’s been here for a while now, working out. But now Detroit Tigers star relief pitcher is about to become a Flying Tiger as the beginning of his rehab assignment. Joel was injured in the off-season while moving boxes as his parents home was near the San Diego wildfires. He had surgery shortly after and is now on his way back. Reports have his fastball already back into the upper-90’s.
Joel pitched for the Lakeland Tigers in 2004 and went 7-7 with a 4.36 ERA.
Joel is expected to participate in a final bullpen session today (Monday) and then join the Flying Tigers on Tuesday or Wednesday.
**UPDATE**
This has now been confirmed by the Detroit Free Press. It says they’re scheduled to “begin their rehab assignments tomorrow”, but I think that just means activated. I wouldn’t expect them to pitch until Wednesday since they both threw today. I’ve been wrong before, though.
