Two Weeks In

By Deran | April 14, 2008

The season is two weeks old, and the Flying Tigers tied with Tampa and Ft. Meyers for third place with a 5-6 record. Not bad considering they’ve only had 3 home games so far.

Scott Sizemore - what can I say? This kid is killing the ball, hitting .382/.450/.559 (Agv./OBP/Slg) with 3 doubles and a home run.

Louis Ott - what a surprise this kid has been. In 28 AB’s he’s hitting .357/.400/.607 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run.

James Skelton - James has been banged up a little but so far, in 21 AB’s, he’s hitting .381/.480/.381. I’d like to see him start getting an extra-base hit now and then but you certainly can’t complain when a guy is hitting .381.

Shawn Roof - Who? That’s right. I don’t know if I extremely underestimated Shawn or he’s just had a good couple weeks, but he has 6 singles in 15 AB’s (.400 avg.) to go with a pair of walks. Keep up the good work!

Ryan Strieby - He’s not lighting the world on fire but he is hitting .276/.371/.483 and leads the team with 2 home runs and is tied with Sizemore for the team lead with 5 walks already. You have to like that.

Cale Iorg - that’s right. The kid that was hitting below .200 for the majority of the first two weeks has a hit in 7 of his last 11 AB’s to bring his avg. up to .279. Cale also has a double and a triple on the season. I was hesitant to include him in this list but that’s streak is hard to ignore. Hopefully that continues.

Porcello/Below - Holy crap. There isn’t a 1/2 punch in the league that can match what these two have done. Their combined record of 2-2 is entirely misleading. In a total of 24 innings pitched, they’ve given up just 2 earned runs (0.75 ERA), 15 hits, 8 BB and 25 K’s. Fantastic pitching by these two.

Nicholas Martin - 0 ER in 7.1 innings to go with 3 hits, 1 BB and 5 K. Good enough for me!

Derek Witt - 0 ER in 4.2 innings, 3 hits, 3 BB, 3k.

Gabriel Benitez - 1.13 ERA in 8 IP, 6 hits, 3 BB, 4K.

Brennan Boesch - Yuck! 3 hits in 33 AB’s (.091 Avg.) to go with a double and a home run that bring his SLG up to a whopping .212.

Justin Justice - *Scratches head* I still expect a good season from Justice, being his 2nd year in the league, but it hasn’t been a good start. He’s hitting .167/.259/.292.

Jeramy Laster - .182/.206/.273 with a walk and a team-leading 13 k’s.

Jonah Nickerson - Not a good start for Jonah. In 7.1 Innings he’s given up 13 hits, 8 ER (9.82 ERA), 3 BB and 5 k’s.

Freddy Dolsi - He’s pitched better of late and he does have 3 “saves”, but in 4.1 innings he’s given up 3 ER on 5 hits and 3 BB. Not what you want from your closer! One thing I do like, though, is his 8 strikeouts. If he continues that the rest of his numbers should go down.

When Laster is swinging for the fences, expect to see your fair share of K’s. Dude can hit the ball a country mile, though.
