Not great, but certainly not the horrible start Lakeland got off to last season. Outside of some shaky infield defense and a road-heavy schedule, this has been a good start to the season. The team is 7th in the pitching-heavy league with a 3.62 ERA and 9th in runs scored. I think a pitcher or two will move up to AA in the first half, but there are some good arms waiting to be bumped up to Lakeland so that shouldn’t hurt the team too bad.
Rick Porcello continues to pitch well, and also continues to be a victim of little-to-no run support. He is 1-3 on the season but has a minuscule 1.35 ERA (0.90 WHIP) and a 5/16 BB:K ratio…. Luis Marte pitched 7 no-hit innings on Friday before he was removed due to pitch count, showing just how good he can be when he’s locating his pitches and keeping them down… Nicholas Martin still hasn’t allowed an earned run in 6 relief appearances spanning 9.0 innings.
Cale Iorg continues his hot hitting. He’s hitting .390 over his last 10 and .308 on the season, including 3 HR, 2 doubles and 2 triples… Michael Bertram is red-hot, going 12 for his last 23, including 3 doubles. He’s hitting .343 on the season…
