Wilkin should be OK

By Deran | March 9, 2008

Tigers prospect and former Lakeland Flying Tiger Wilkin Ramirez came into Spring Training as a player often regarded as having Major League All-Star talent, but injuries have prevented the 22 year old outfielder from having any sort of break-out-type season.

His fortune appeared to be changing this spring, however, as he put together 7 hits in his first 18 at-bats, including a double, 2 homeruns, and 8 RBI’s, drawing praise from coaches and even Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland.

Unfortunately, another setback. While diving for a ball on Friday, Wilkin injured his shoulder. Luckily, it wasn’t a separation, but a partial dislocation. It’s looking as if he may miss the remainder of Spring Training, but it shouldn’t carry over into the regular season, as he heads back to AA Erie. We wish Wilkin the best of luck and a speedy recovery.

Yet another injury for Ramirez. I think it’s a bad sign that he is just one of those guys who will just keep getting hurt.
He was coming in on a blooper and dove straight forward. Sure, he was coming in hard, but it didn’t look like a dive that would injury someone (like Polanco’s injury 2 yrs ago.)
The guy has a build a lot like Craig Monroe. He doesn’t look like he should be so fragile.
