Thomas & Lopez make opening day roster.

By Deran | March 29, 2008

After last night’s 10-0 win in Houston, Tiger’s manager Jim Leyland told Clete Thomas that he had, in fact, made the team. He didn’t stand a chance coming into Spring Training, but the kid played hard and proved himself to be a productive baseball player. Now he’s a Major League baseball player on a first-class team. Congratulations, Clete Thomas!

Filling out the last bullpen spots will be Aquilino Lopez and Yorman Bazardo. It went right down to the wire between Lopez and Casey Fien, but after several days of rumors around camp that Fien had made the team, Leyland went with the pitcher with the most experience. On the bright side, Casey’s display this spring will probably springboard him onto AA Erie’s roster, skipping Lakeland, and will likely be called up at some point during the season if the Tigers need a reliever. We wish him the best of luck.

Here is the Tigers final 25-man roster, barring trade or injury:

Starting pitchers
Justin Verlander
Kenny Rogers
Jeremy Bonderman
Nate Robertson
Dontrelle Willis
