First round of cuts, Porcello likely to start in Lakeland

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Bill over at Detroit Tigers Weblog has posted the first round of “cuts”. Now, these players haven’t been released, but sent to Minor League camp, as expected.
The Tigers trimmed the first 12 players from big league camp today. As expected Rick Porcello was among those sent out. What wasn’t a given was his destination. […]

Tata hates doors

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

This isn’t extremely relevant to the Detroit Tigers or the Lakeland Flying Tigers, but I thought I needed to discuss it anyhow. RHP Jordan Tata, slated for Toledo’s rotation with a slim chance at seeing some time in Detroit this summer, was not having a particularly good spring.

Tigers prospect and former Lakeland Flying Tiger Wilkin Ramirez came into Spring Training as a player often regarded as having Major League All-Star talent, but injuries have prevented the 22 year old outfielder from having any sort of break-out-type season.
His fortune appeared to be changing this spring, however, as he put together 7 hits […]

A Typical Day on the Road

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Willie Horton lines fans up single file for autographs.
Tigertown was relatively calm today, as players making the trip to Dunedin loaded the buses or left in their own vehicles between 8:00 and 9:00 AM. The only big name player to make the trip was Miguel Cabrera. The remaining players worked out inside the stadium for […]
